The images used alongside the teacher quotes were harvested from out of copyright editions of early McGuffey's Readers. Written by religiously conservative teacher by the name of William Holmes McGuffey (September 23, 1800 – May 4, 1873), who began his teaching career at age 14 as an itinerant teacher on the American frontier, these readers were the most widely used textbooks in the United States for almost a century. It is estimated that over 120 million copies were sold. Their mixture of patriotism, religion, and conservive family values influenced several generations of Americans and helped shape their moral view.
